Avon Park, FL : 49-year-old Man was killed in motorcycle crash on Saturday October 11th 2014.
A 49-year-old Avon Park man died Saturday night from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on Camp Mack Rd.Robert Erle Dane was pronounced dead at the scene just after 10 pm.
According to a Polk County Sheriff's Office report Dane and a friend – Ronnie Strickland – were traveling west approximately one mile west of Camp Lester Rd. when Strickland noticed Dane was no longer behind him.
Strickland immediately turned around and located Dane's motorcycle. The deceased was in a ditch adjacent to the roadway. Dane was face down in some water and was not breathing when Strickland called 9-1-1.
Emergency responders attempted to revive Dane but were unsuccessful.
Evidence indicates Dane failed to negotiate a left curve on Camp Mack Rd. The motorcycle veered off the roadway onto the north shoulder.
The bike continued west through some grass for about 100 feet before it went into a water filled ditch where it struck an embankment on the north side. Dane was ejected.
Investigators say speed and distraction do not appear to be factors in this fatal crash. It is not known of Dane was wearing a helmet but one was located nearby.
