POCATELLO, ID : Three juveniles injured when SUV crashes into power pole, causing outage impacting hundreds of Idaho Power customers in the 1200 block of Wilson Avenue on Friday, 12th July 2019
An SUV plowed through a power pole on the city's north side on Friday afternoon, causing a power outage that impacted about 600 Idaho Power customers.
The Dodge Durango's juvenile driver and two juvenile passengers suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred around 3:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of Wilson Avenue, Pocatello police said. The names of the accident victims have not yet been released.Police said the Durango was spinning cookies in a dirt lot off of Wilson and upon exiting the lot and entering Wilson the vehicle struck the power pole.The impact of the SUV severed the power pole, causing downed wires on the roadway and a power outage on the city's north side.
The Durango's three juvenile occupants were treated at the scene by Pocatello Fire Department paramedics and were not transported to the hospital.
As of 5:45 p.m. Friday Idaho Power had electricity restored to everyone except for a couple of nearby businesses, authorities said.
Wilson Avenue between Z Street and West Chapel Road was temporarily shut down because of the severed power pole and downed power lines.
In addition to several Pocatello police and fire units, Idaho Power crews also responded to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by Pocatello police.
