The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announced that Greenville Trooper Daniel K. Rebman passed away from his injuries after his Patrol vehicle was struck overnight while he was on duty.

Rebman was stationary in his Patrol vehicle in the emergency lane of I-385 near Bridges Road when his Ford Taurus Patrol car was struck from behind by a pick-up truck around 12:23 a.m. on Oct. 24, said a SCDPS spokesperson.

Rebman was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital in critical condition but died later that day.

Trooper Rebman joined South Carolina Highway Patrol with Basic Class 99 in Sept. 2016. Rebman, a Florida native, began his career in Troop Six (Charleston and Berkeley) before being transferred to Troop Three, in Greenville.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the collision and has stated they will release details of the collision.

“The Highway Patrol and DPS are a family, and we are here to support Trooper Rebman and his family during this time,” said SCDPS Director Leroy Smith. “We ask the public to keep Trooper Rebman and his family in their thoughts and prayers.”
