NORTH COVENTRY, PA : A man following a hit and run crash on Wednesday, August 30, 2017

North Coventry Police have arrested a man following a hit and run crash that a resident witnessed earlier this month.

Police said they have charged Richard Allen Messner, 58, of Boyertown, after he allegedly crashed into a vehicle on Route 422 and continued down the road.

At 4 p.m. on Aug. North Coventry Police responded to the area of Route 422 west near mile marker 171.3 for a report of a hit-and-run crash. The victim reported that Messner was driving erratically, struck his vehicle and continued to travel westbound on Route 422, failing to stop after the accident, police said. The victim provided police with the striking vehicles description, make, model and Pennsylvania registration.

Following an investigation, police allege Messner had been driving the vehicle and he was processed and released pending a preliminary hearing.

Messner has been charged with accident involving damage to an attended vehicle or property, duty to give information and render aid, careless driving and disregarding traffic lanes.
