Sarasota, FL : Lakewood Ranch man dies in car crash on University Parkway on Thursday night, May 12, 2016
A Lakewood Ranch man died Thursday night after the van he was driving struck a tree on University Parkway.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol:
Dead at the scene was Wallace P. Hough, 70. His passenger and wife, Janet L. Hough, 70, was seriously injured and taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
At about 10:15 p.m., Hough was driving his 2016 Chrysler van east on University Parkway in the left lane, approaching the intersection of Miramar Way, just west of Lorraine Road, when he veered off the roadway into a raised median. The van then struck a tree. He died at the scene.
The couple were about two and a half miles from their Country Club East home, which they purchased in September 2012 for $1.125 million after owning a Lakewood Ranch condominium in Moorings at Edgewater since 2008.
They were originally from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, area. He was a financial adviser and had golfed at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. She has been active in the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club.
Troopers indicated on the report that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
