OMAHA, NE : An Omaha woman is dead after a serious crash on Monday, 1st January 2018

An Omaha woman is dead after a serious crash in the metro just after midnight on January 1st.It happened on Highway 75 near O street around 12:20 Monday morning.

According to Omaha Police, 19-year-old Vismar Carmona-Martinez was driving a 2011 Chevy Malibu north on Highway 75. Witnesses tell police he was traveling over the posted 60 mph speed limit. He then struck a 2016 Chevy Spark driven by 67-year-old Ann Smock of Omaha.

According to the report, Smock's car was in the off-ramp lane for L Street when Martinez hit her car from behind. His car then crossed two northbound lanes on Highway 75 and hit a concrete barrier.

Smock was taken to Nebraska Medicine in critical condition but died shortly after arriving.

Martinez was not hurt in the crash. Police said he was taken to OPD headquarters where he was given a breathalyzer test.

He was then booked in to Douglas County Corrections for one count of felony motor vehicle homicide.
