Columbus, OH : Former Cincinnati RB standout Isaiah Pead critically injured in car crash early Saturday, November 12, 2016
A former NFL running back and standout at the University of Cincinnati was critically injured in a one-car accident early Saturday, police said.
Isaiah Pead, 26, who is third all-time in rushing yards at the school, was ejected from his vehicle following the crash on Interstate 670 outside Columbus, Ohio, around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Ohio state troopers said Pead's 2011 Cadillac STS was traveling eastbound when he lost control and went off the right side of the road. The vehicle smashed through a metal guardrail and went airborne, striking several trees before coming to rest some 90 feet from the roadway.
Troopers said Pead was ejected from the vehicle and was not wearing his seat belt. Witnesses at the scene called 911 and provided first aid to Pead. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. A passenger in the vehicle was also hospitalized and is in stable condition, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Pead had 3,288 yards in a four-year career with the Bearcats. He was drafted in the second round by the then-St. Louis Rams in 2011 and spent time with the Rams and Miami Dolphins. He was cut by the Dolphins midway through the season and is a free agent. He had recently worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs, though he did not sign with the team.
Troopers said the crash remains under investigation and said excessive speed may have been a factor.
