Mount Vernon, IN : Teen killed in southwestern Indiana ATV crash on Sunday, November 23, 2014
Authorities say a 15-year-old boy was fatally injured when the ATV he was riding crashed along a rural road in southwestern Indiana.
The Posey County sheriff says Ben Dickhaut of Mount Vernon died Sunday at an Evansville hospital, a day after he was injured.
Sheriff Greg Oeth tells the Evansville Courier & Press that a 17-year-old boy driving the ATV apparently lost control and it overturned nearly 100 feet off the road some 10 mile west of Evansville. The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
WFIE-TV reports Dickhaut was a sophomore at Mount Vernon High School.
The sheriff says investigators believe the ATV was traveling legally on the roadway and that drugs and alcohol weren't factors in the crash.
