Authorities have identified the driver who died in an early morning wreck involving a semi-truck hauling chicken parts in Upshur County.

Law enforcement officials say around 3:12 a.m., an 18-wheeler transporting chicken parts was traveling northbound on US Highway 271 when it crossed over into oncoming traffic and clipped another semi-truck on U.S. Highway 271 near Lavender Road.

The chicken hauler then tipped over, blocking both northbound lanes of traffic and spilling its load of chicken parts. Shortly after that, a pickup truck towing a utility trailer struck the trailer that was blocking both northbound lanes of the highway.

The driver of that truck, identified as Robert Wayne Williams, 57, of Overton was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was shut down for seven hours while HAZMAT crews worked to clear chicken parts from the roadway.
