A man and a 6-week-old baby sustained life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision Sunday night in Seneca County’s Liberty Township.
Casey Monroe, 21, of Burgoon, was driving a red 2006 Pontiac G6 northeast on Ohio 12 at 6:10 p.m. when his vehicle went left of center and collided head on with a black 2014 Dodge Journey being driven by Vipin Misra, 30, of Findlay, said troopers with Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol. Following the collision, the Pontiac came to a stop off the right side of the road, while the Dodge spun and came to rest on the road.
Monroe, who was not wearing his seat belt, was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo after sustaining life-threatening injuries, troopers said. His condition is unknown at this time.
Misra was transported by Seneca County EMS to Fostoria Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
There were three passengers in Misra’s vehicle, two of whom also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken by ambulance to Fostoria Hospital — Durgeshwari Misra, 32, and Madhave Misra, 2, troopers said.
The third passenger — 6-week-old Dhruv Misra — was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent after sustaining life-threatening injuries, troopers said. The baby was listed in critical condition.
Both adult occupants were wearing seat belts, and both children were in proper safety seats, troopers said.
Whether drug and/or alcohol use was a crash factor is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed, troopers said.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Bettesville Fire and EMS, LifeFlight, Triple J Towing and D&D Towing.
