AFTON, OK : A two-vehicle collision on Thursday, December, 28th 2017
A two-vehicle collision at 5:38 p.m. on Dec.28 on County Road 520 and County Road 225, approximately .5 miles east of Afton in Ottawa County resulted in a Vinita woman being life flighted to Joplin.
According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Preston Konemann’s report, a 2006 Dodge driven by Lisa Goforth, 41, of Vinita, was traveling southbound on County Road 520 and a 2015 Toyota, driven by Jaimee Davis, 35, of Afton, was traveling northbound on County Road 520.
At the Y-intersection east of Afton, Davis attempted to turn left onto County Road 225 and was struck by Goforth’s vehicle, according to the report.
Goforth was pinned in her vehicle for a total of 17 minutes before being extricated by the Afton Fire Department. Goforth was then transported by Life Flight to Freeman Hospital in Joplin where she was admitted in stable condition with head and leg injuries.
Davis was transported by Miami Integris EMS to Miami Integris Hospital in Miami with head, arm, and leg injuries but she was not admitted.
The OHP report lists the condition of both drivers as apparently normal, and the cause of the collision as failure to yield from a yield sign. The weather is listed as clear and dry at the time of the collision and seatbelts were in use by both drivers and airbags deployed in both vehicles.
OHP Trooper Konemann investigated the incident and was assisted by Trooper Chris Ellison, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, and the Afton Fire Department.
