Chelsea, AL : Two people killed and two others injured in a five-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 280 in Chelsea on Thursday, May 12, 2016

Alabama State Troopers say two people were killed and two others were injured in a five-vehicle crash in Chelsea.

Media outlets report that the wreck occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on U.S. Route 280.

The victims who died were in a 2007 Toyota Corolla that was struck by a 2010 Ford F-250. The Toyota was driven by 81-year-old John Vernon Alexander. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife, 74-year-old Carolyn Johnson Alexander, was taken to UAB Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Two other people involved in the wreck were injured and taken to area hospitals.

Troopers are still investigating the incident.
