Slaughter, LA : Jackson woman, unidentified passenger die in fiery crash on LA 19 in Slaughter on Saturday, Aug 8, 2015
Louisiana State Police early Saturday were investigating a single-vehicle crash on La. 19 in Slaughter that claimed the lives of the driver and a passenger in the vehicle.
Investigators from State Police Troop A responded to the scene shortly before 4 a.m. and found Tasha Whitfield, of Jackson, and an unidentified passenger dead at the scene, said Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee, State Police spokesman. A third passenger, a woman, escaped with moderate injuries, Lee said in a news release.
Whitfield, 26, was traveling northbound on La. 19 north of La. 956 in a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road, striking a concrete abutment, according to the initial investigation by State Police.
The crash caused the vehicle to catch fire while Whitfield and the passengers were still inside.
The East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Whitfield and the passenger dead at the scene.
The survivor was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, the release states.
The crash remains under investigation as investigators from Troop A work to identify the deceased passenger and the cause of the crash, according to Lee.
