FORT MYERS, FL : A crash between a Lee County school bus and an SUV on Buckingham Road in Fort Myers on Monday, December, 11th 2017
Injuries were reported Monday morning following a crash between a Lee County school bus and an SUV on Buckingham Road in Fort Myers.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, no children were involved, but the bus driver and SUV driver were both injured and rushed to the hospital.
Troopers said the driver of the SUV suffered traumatic injuries.
According to a press release, the SUV driver crossed the center of the road when he dropped his cell phone and reached to grab it. He then hit the front of the school bus.
That driver, identified as 55-year-old Leroy Rogers Jr. of Fort Myers, has been charged with driving on the wrong side of the road, not wearing a seatbelt, and not having insurance.
The crash shut down Buckingham Rd. near Bird Road in both directions. As of 7:30 a.m., the scene was cleared and traffic was moving.
