A Bassett woman was killed Tuesday after a vehicle collided with a tractor trailer on U.S. 220 in Franklin County, according to a state police press release.
A trooper was called to the wreck near Fork Mountain Road at about 2:19 p.m. According to police, a 1987 Jeep Wrangler failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling westbound on Fork Mountain Road. While entering U.S. 220, the Jeep pulled into the path of an oncoming 2011 Volvo tractor trailer. The Jeep overturned during the wreck and came to rest on the road's shoulder.
The Jeep's driver, 68-year-old Angela C. Martin, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing the lap belt, but not the shoulder belt, according to the release. A 7-year-old child in the Jeep was uninjured.
The tractor trailer's driver, 65-year-old Ralph G. Elio of North Babylon, New York, was not injured. No charges are expected at this time.
