Springfield, IL : Athens woman, two children injured in wreck north of Sherman on Monday, June 20, 2016

A 6-year-old girl who suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash on Illinois 124 north of Sherman on Monday is expected to live, Illinois State Police said.

The 6-year-old girl was one of three people in a Chevrolet TrailBlazer that crashed on Illinois 124 about 0.6 miles north of Sudduth Road around 12:30 p.m.

State police said the driver, Debbie K. Peddycoart, 56, of Athens overcorrected and went back onto the roadway before the vehicle rolled over several times, coming to rest on its top in a field.
All three people in the vehicle were taken to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Peddycoart and a 13-year-old boy had non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the 6-year-old girl was restrained. Peddycoart was not the mother of the two children, state police said.

Andrew and Barber roads were closed for about three hours Monday afternoon as police investigated.
