MEADVIEW, AZ : A Georgia couple was killed in a crash on Wednesday, August 2, 2017

A Georgia couple was killed in a Wednesday afternoon crash near Meadview, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has announced.

Karen Fran Foxworth, 60, and Charles Kerry Foxworth, 59, of Conyers, were traveling east on Diamond Bar Road toward the Grand Canyon when Karen Foxworth, the driver, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and entered the westbound lane, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Trish Carter said Thursday.

The car struck a westbound semi-tractor at Milepost 11.

The truck’s driver, Cory Schober, 56, of Phoenix, initially refused medical attention, but later complained of back pain and was flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Karen Foxworth was extricated by rescue personnel, Carter said, but attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful. Charles Foxworth Kerry was found to be deceased at the scene.

Also in the Foxworths’ car were their children, Laura Elizabeth Foxworth, 19, and Charles Kerry Foxworth, 23, both of McDonough, Ga.

They suffered severe injuries and reportedly were flown to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment, Carter said, but no information on their conditions was immediately available.

Karen Foxworth and the younger Charles Foxworth were wearing seat belts, while the other two occupants were not. The accident remains under investigation.

The MCSO was assisted at the scene by Hualapai Nation police and personnel from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Hualapai and Golden Valley fire departments, the Arizona Department of Transportation, the Mohave County Roads Department and MCSO Posse members.

Carter said off-duty medical personnel from out of state also stopped and assisted with rescue attempts and CPR, and “played a huge factor in saving the two victims in the passenger car.”
