The first crash occurred about 12:20 p.m. on Interstate 95, at the northbound 64-mile marker, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy and South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins.
They said a 2008 white Cadillac SUV with Florida tags ran off the left side of the road after losing control in the rain and smashed into some trees. The driver was critically injured and the back-seat passenger was trapped and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, McRoy said. The front-seat passenger was unharmed.
