Des Moines, IA : Police officer killed in traffic accident in Dallas County on Wednesday, August 3, 2016

A West Des Moines police officer was killed in a traffic accident Wednesday.

Officer Shawn Miller collided with a car after attending a court hearing in Dallas County. Miller was riding his motorcycle at the time.

The 47-year-old had been with the West Des Moines Police Department since 1995 and also served in the National Guard.

An investigation into the crash is under way.
