Effingham, NH : Motorcyclist dies after collision with car at Route 153 On Thursday, June 30th, 2016

A father-son motorcycle trip turned fatal Thursday night, and state police are looking for a car that left the scene of a crash in Effingham.
Jonathan Kauffman, 21, of Maine died from his injuries Friday morning.

State police said that a car stopped suddenly on Route 25, causing the crash. Investigators said there might have been an argument between the operators before the crash happened.

"Unfortunately, early this morning, that operator succumbed to his injuries and died as a result of the collision," Lt. Kevin Duffy said.

Duffy said Kauffman and his father were driving on Route 153 about 7:15 p.m. Thursday when something happened before they turned onto Route 25.

"At some point, there were words exchanged either at the intersection and then possibly along the side of the road," Duffy said.

Duffy said those words were exchanged with the driver of a white, four-door sedan with New York plates ahead of the motorcyclists. The driver was described as a black woman with glasses and a ponytail.

Police said that after the argument, Kauffman's father rode after the driver.

"One motorcycle turned eastbound to head toward Maine," Duffy said. "The other motorcycle followed the white sedan right on 25."

Kauffman then turned around on Route 25 and went after his father. Police said that's when the crash happened.

The driver of the car allegedly stopped short, causing Kauffman's motorcycle to crash into the back of the car, police said. Investigators said Kauffman wasn't wearing a helmet, and he suffered severe head injuries. His father

wasn't injured.

Police said they now want to speak with the driver who took off.

"So that we can get the other side, their side of the story and hopefully piece this investigation together," Duffy said.

The crash shut down the westbound side of Route 25 for four hours. Investigators said anyone with information on the crash should call state police troop E.
