Two boys and a police officer have been injured in a two-car accident on Long Island.
Suffolk County police say an officer's car was struck by a vehicle making a left turn in Deer Park. The police car was then knocked onto the sidewalk where it struck the boys, cousins who were headed to a pizzeria with a relative. It happened around 6:40 p.m. Sunday.
Eight-year-old John Flores of Hicksville is in stable condition at a hospital with a soft tissue injury. Twelve-year-old Gerardo Melendez of Hicksville suffered an ankle injury and is in the hospital. Jose Flores, John's father and Gerardo's uncle, wasn't injured.
The police officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury, a concussion. The driver of the car, 55-year-old Syed Tirmizi of Dix Hills, wasn't injured.
