Bourne ,MA : 47-year-old Thomas Medeiros minorly injured and shuts down Bourne Rotary after Tanker truck crash on Tuesday night ,March 324th 2015
The Bourne Rotary and the Bourne Bridge have reopened to traffic more than 10 hours after a gasoline tanker crashed and spilled about 5,000 gallons of fuel.
The tanker carrying approximately 11,500 gallons of fuel tipped over at about 11 p.m. Tuesday and the road and bridge did not reopen until about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
An environmental cleanup is underway, and some fuel found its way to the Cape Cod Canal.
The driver, 47-year-old Thomas Medeiros, of Westport, was initially trapped in his cab but freed himself. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation but the preliminary investigation indicates the tanker crossed the bridge southbound, but instead of turning into the rotary, crossed into the rotary's grass infield and rolled on its side.
