Two people died and two others were seriously injured in a head-on crash Sunday in Buchanan County, Virginia.
A 2017 Toyota Rav 4 was traveling east on Route 460 less than a mile west of Route 83 Sunday afternoon when it crossed the center line and struck head-on a westbound 2005 Honda Element, according to Virginia State Police.
The impact of the crash caused the Toyota to catch fire and the vehicle was completely destroyed.
The driver of the Toyota, an 81-year-old Grundy, Virginia, man, was transported to Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee, for treatment of life-threatening injuries. His passenger, Billy Joe Carter, 75, of Grundy, Virginia, was transported to Buchanan General Hospital.
Carter died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The driver of the Honda, a 74-year-old woman from Grundy, was transported to Holston Valley Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Her passenger, Charles V. Baker, 52, also of Grundy, died at the scene.
The crash remained under investigation Sunday night. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to VSP.
