Simpson County, KY : 9-year-old Taylorsville boy killed in southcentral Kentucky crash on Monday afternoon, June 29, 2015
A 9-year-old Taylorsville boy was killed Monday afternoon in a motor vehicle crash in Franklin, Kentucky.
Kentucky State Police said a Lexus passenger car driven by Peggy Groves of Franklin was traveling south in the 4000 block of US-31W about 2 p.m. Monday when Groves tried to pass another vehicle. Her Lexus traveled into the path of a northbound Ford box truck operated by Gary Dalton of Bowling Green. Police said the impact caused Grove's vehicle to slam into a parked and unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot of the Hot Plate Restaurant.
Nine-year-old Owen Higginbotham of Taylorsville, a passenger in Groves' vehicle, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Simpson County Coroner. Another passenger, Taylor Higginbotham, also of Taylorsville, was taken to a hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.
Groves was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville with life-threatening injuries. She remains in critical condition. Dalton suffered minor injuries. He was treated and released from a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by KSP.
