Oakland Park ,FL : SUV crashes into Oakland Park Buddhist center on Monday ,August 10th 2015

-A driver who lost control in traffic crashed into a Buddhist center in Oakland Park

The driver of the small SUV, Rosis Ocetous, said that a vehicle cut him off on the road, causing him to swerve into the Drolma Buddhist Center on Monday, located at 140 Prospect Road. He said he didn't have a choice. "My car is bad, it looks bad," said Ocetous.

About 40 people in the area typically come to the building for meditation. According to the people who worship at the center, sometimes a teacher, nun or monk will prepare a class inside the lobby, where the crash occurred. The monk who is usually preparing for his teachings was stuck on a flight at the time of the crash and at the time of the incident, no one was inside the building.

The building, however, is still intact, despite the crash. "Sometimes it wakes us up to non-attachment of things, material things," said Kelsang Deshe, Buddhist monastic who practices at the center. "What matters, what's important is life, human life."

By 4 p.m., the SUV was already taken away by a tow truck, and the driver was said to be OK.

At this time, the driver is not facing any charges.
