27-year-old North Dakota motorcyclist was killed in East Volusia County

A 27-year-old North Dakota motorcyclist was killed Friday when he crossed the center line on State Road 40 in east Volusia County and his Harley-Davidson hit a sport utility vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man, whose name was not released, was from Devils Lake. He was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Saturn SUV, Robert Bendlin, 70, of Ormond Beach, was not hurt. Bendlin was westbound near Creek Haven Road west of Ormond Beach about 6:35 p.m.

The crash happened during Daytona Beach's annual Bike Week, which ends Sunday.

A third vehicle, an eastbound Nissan car, hit the motorcycle after the rider fell off. The driver, Lynn Temple, 60, of Palm Coast, was not injured.
