Summerfield,FL : 1 teen killed, another injured in vehicle wreck in Summerfield on Wednesday, 6th May, 2020
A single-vehicle crash killed one teenager and injured a second teen on Wednesday night.
According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the pickup truck was speeding northbound on U.S. 301 near Southeast 144th Place Road as it approached a curve. The driver lost control and the vehicle fish-tailed, veering into the southbound lane. The pickup overturned several times in the grassy west shoulder, ejecting both the driver and passenger, troopers said.
The vehicle landed upright along the grassy shoulder.
Officials said the 17-year-old driver, a male, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue officials. His 16-year-old passenger, also a male, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The crash happened about 10:30 p.m.
FHP officials said both juveniles are from Summerfield and were not wearing their seat belts. The names of the teens were not released by authorities.
