Las Vegas, NV : Aarnout Michael Berry, 57, killed while running across I-15 on south of Tropicana Avenue on Thursday, January 23, 2015
A pedestrian hit by a pickup truck on Interstate 15 was running across the northbound lanes of the highway when he was struck, Nevada Highway Patrol said.
Aarnout Michael Berry, 57, of Anchorage, Alaska, was killed after he ran west into the path of a white, 2006 Toyota Tacoma south of Tropicana Avenue, officials said.
Berry was on the interstate about 7:15 p.m. when he was hit, and he was later pronounced dead in the left travel lane, the patrol said.
Although it was initially believed he was hit by a pickup truck and a car, there is no evidence to suggest that a white, 2008 Nissan Altima that stopped at the scene hit Berry, Trooper Loy Hixson said.
It appears the undercarriage of the Nissan did hit debris and parts from the Tacoma, Hixson said.
The occupants of the vehicles were not injured, officials said.
There was no indication of why Berry was on the road.
This was the first fatal automobile-pedestrian crash investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol-Southern Command this year.
