Beaverton, OR : Off-duty firefighter assists after serious-injury crash early sunday morning on June 1, 2014
A motorcyclist was seriously injured in an accident early Sunday morning, but police made an arrest two hours later thanks in part to an off duty Clark County firefighter who saw the incident.
The firefighter told Beaverton police the motorcycle was riding westbound on Tualatin Valley Highway when the driver of an eastbound truck went to turn left on SW 139th and hit the rider straight on. The man told police the suspect left the truck running and ran off.
He gave police a description of the suspect, but a K9 team was unable to track him down.
Just before 2:30 a.m., police got a call near the accident about a man pounding on the door of a house on SW Electric Street and then getting into the residents’ vehicle. When they showed up, they determined 33-year-old Oscar Ottoniel Bravo Matias was the suspect.
Police said evidence points to Matias being DUII, and that he was jailed on warrants and probation violations, with charges related to DUII and hit-and-run forthcoming.
The motorcycle rider was sent straight into surgery.
