Three die in weekend crashes in North Idaho
Two North Idaho residents died early this morning in a head-on collision on Interstate 90 near Kellogg.In another accident Saturday night, a Moscow man riding a motorcycle was killed on state Highway 8 in Latah County.Melissa A. Connors, 32, of Osburn, Idaho, and Shannon D. Wheeler, 38, of Silverton, Idaho, died at the scene of the Shoshone County accident at 1:53 a.m. today, Idaho State Police said.Wheeler was a passenger in a 1999 Hyundai Accent that Connors was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-90 at milepost 49, the ISP said. The car struck a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Buffie D. McMahon, 40, of Tucson, Ariz.McMahon was injured as were two of her passengers, Cherokee Bresetee, 20, of Paso Robles, Calif., and Matthew Shubert Jr., 17, whose hometown was unknown. All three were taken to Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene.The freeway’s eastbound lanes were closed about four hours. Investigation continues by the Idaho State Police.Saturday night, Jeffry H. Muir, 53, of Moscow attempted to pass a vehicle on his 2011 Harley Davidson Fatboy, the ISP said.Muir failed to negotiate a curve in the road and went off the south edge of Highway 8 at milepost 11.5. He was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, police said.Both crashes are under investigation.
