Laredo, TX : Fatal crash victim was UISD student on Wednesday, February 15th 2017

A United South High School student died early Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash on Bob Bullock Loop, according to Laredo police.
Authorities identified him as Jose Treviño, 17.
Treviño was thrown from a Ford Mustang he was driving when it crashed into a Honda Civic driven by Juan Gil Medina, 26.
LPD said the Mustang was split in half while the Honda burst in flames.
Medina was airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries.
The United Independent School District released a statement regarding Treviño’s death.
“United ISD was saddened to hear of the passing of Jose Treviño, an 11th grade student at United South High School. He was a good student at the campus who was a member of the football team during his (ninth), 10th and the beginning of his 11th grade year,” the statement reads.
“He was proud to be a USHS Panther and was an active student at school alongside his friends. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and all those who knew him. He will be greatly missed.”
The crash was reported at about 12:23 a.m. in the 10400 block of Loop 20.
Treviño allegedly lost control of the Mustang, crossed the median and struck the Honda that was traveling north on Loop 20.
Police said Treviño was thrown from the Mustang. First responders found him on a bike trail on the side of Loop 20. He was dead at the scene, according to police. It’s not clear if he was wearing a seatbelt.
The Honda burst into flames upon collision. Its driver, Medina, managed to pull himself out of the wreckage. Paramedics found him on the side of the street. He was alert and oriented.
First responders said Medina sustained possible femur fractures and burns to both sides of his head, neck and arms. Paramedics took him to Doctors Hospital. He was later airlifted to San Antonio.
The LPD crash team is investigating the case.
