Reading, PA : Two seriously injured in 2-motorcycle crash on May, Tuesday, 16th 2017

A crash Tuesday afternoon involving two motorcycles in Spring Township sent the two riders to the hospital with serious injuries, according to police.

Crews were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. to the intersection of Old Fritztown and Hain roads.Both motorcycles were headed west on Old Fritztown Road when the first motorcycle, a roadster, attempted to make a left turn onto Hain Road. The second motorcycle, a touring-style bike, crossed the center line to pass the first motorcycle, causing a collision.
The roadster ended up in the middle of the intersection, while the touring bike traveled to the southwest corner of the intersection, hitting a grassy embankment and coming to a stop.
Both drivers, who were not identified, were lying in the middle of the intersection.
The drivers were transported to Reading Hospital with serious injuries. Berks County Deputy Coroner Melissa Sealie said she had not been called to the hospital as of Tuesday night.
An accident reconstruction team on the scene of the accident for nearly two hours. A Cumru Township Fire Police van was parked at the intersection as investigators climbed on the roof, taking pictures of the scene. Debris from both motorcycles was strewn across the road, police marking evidence with spray paint cans.
The intersection was reopened about 8:15 p.m.
Dozens of neighbors and onlookers in vehicles gathered around the scene of the accident.
A neighbor, who wish not to be identified, said she walked up to the scene after the crash happened, helping to administer CPR to one of the riders because she serves as a nurse. She said both riders appeared to have suffered traumatic head injuries, and neither one was wearing a helmet. No helmets were witnessed on the roadway around the scene.
“Some families are going to be hurting tonight,” the woman said.
