TOPSFIELD, MA : 1 dead in crash on Route 97 in Topsfield on Sunday, 5th August 2018

A single car crash on Route 97 late Sunday night has left one person dead.

The Topsfield Fire Department was called to the scene of the crash, in the area of 57 Haverhill Road, at 10:38 p.m., according to a post on the department's website.

Fire Chief Jennifer Collins-Brown said one person had died at the scene "from severe injuries sustained in the accident," according to the post.

Fire personnel were asked to bring lighting units to the scene, so crews could search nearby woods for potentially ejected victims. It was not clear whether any other victims were found.

Topsfield police are investigating the crash.
