Lake City,FL : Jasper woman charged with DUI manslaughter in New Year’s crash on October, Thursday 19th 2017

A Jasper woman has been charged after a Wellborn man died in a crash shortly after midnight on New Year’s.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Jessica Miller was charged Thursday with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide for causing the accident that killed Michael O’Malley, 68.

Miller was also charged with various other traffic violations, like speeding, failing to maintain a single lane and not wearing her seatbelt, following the FHP’s investigation.

According to FHP’s report in January, Miller was traveling south on NW Lake Jeffery Road north of NW Bascom Norris Drive at 12:09 a.m. on Jan. 1 when O’Malley was traveling north on Lake Jeffery Road.

Miller’s 2007 Dodge Ram pickup moved into the northbound lane, according to the report, causing a head-on collision with O’Malley’s 2006 Ford Ranger.

O’Malley was pronounced deceased on the scene according the report.

Miller was transported to Shands at the University of Florida with incapacitating injuries, the report states.
