Wetumpka, AL : Wetumpka woman charged after fatal wreck on Dozier Road near Woodhaven Trail, 5 miles east of Wetumpka on Sunday, 5th April, 2020

A Wetumpka woman was jailed Sunday morning accused of driving under the influence and causing a wreck that killed a man.

Kevin Mara, 31, of McMinnville, Oregon, was the passenger in a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic when the driver, Alexis Danielle Wright, 22, ran off the roadway, State Trooper Michael Carswell said.

The wreck occurred about 4:40 a.m. on Dozier Road near Woodhaven Trail, 5 miles east of Wetumpka, Carswell said.

When the Chevrolet ran off the roadway, it struck a fence, Carswell said. Mara was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wright was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into the Elmore County Jail. She was not injured in the wreck.
