New York, NY : Thirteen people injured in tour bus accident near Central Park on Thursday, July 21, 2016

Thirteen people were injured when a double-decker tour bus slammed into a tree after running off a roadway and across a sidewalk on the eastern edge of Central Park on Thursday, officials said.

The crash took place about 1:15 p.m. at Fifth Ave. and E. 63rd St. on the Upper East Side, they said.

A 70-year-old man and 71-year-old woman, both tourists, suffered head injuries, but were expected to survive. An ambulance took them to New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

The FDNY said other victims were taken to Lenox Hill Hospital.
Police said the GO New York Tours bus was going south on Fifth Ave. and the driver told them he was trying to avoid a taxi he claimed cut him off. The bus then mounted the curb and hit a tree.
