Newport News,VA : Children ejected as SUV overturns in crash on I-64 in Hampton on February, Monday 12th 2018
An SUV overturned during a crash on Interstate 64 in Hampton Monday evening, ejecting at least two children and seriously injuring the driver, police said.
The crash happened about 5 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Mercury Boulevard, according to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya.
Troopers investigating the crash think a 2004 Ford Expedition was traveling westbound as traffic began to brake suddenly. The female driver attempted to avoid crashing into the vehicle in front of her and swerved to the right. The Expedition struck a 2005 Mercedes Benz, causing the SUV to overturn. Two, possibly three children were ejected, Anaya said.
An unknown male got out of the Expedition and limped away from the scene, she said.
The female driver and three children were taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center with injuries. The driver’s injuries are believed to be life-threatening, but police are not yet sure if any of the children’s injuries are life-threatening, Anaya said.
