Motorcycle sergeant involved in crash on S. Virginia in midtown Reno on January, Thursday 4th 2018

A motorcycle sergeant with the Reno Police Department was injured in a crash on S. Virginia Street in midtown Thursday, according to police.

In a statement, Lt. Scott Shaw said the crash was reported just before 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, on S. Virginia and Thoma streets.

The sergeant was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement. No other details were provided.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office will investigate the collision as part of a regional protocol, according to Shaw.

Bob Harmon, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said investigators learned the sergeant was stopped in southbound Virginia to allow a pedestrian to cross the street when he was rear-ended by a car.

The driver of the car received a citation, according to Harmon. The intersection was closed for the investigation, but it has since reopened, he said.
