Wichita, KS: Man dies after car accident in west Wichita on Saturday, August 1st 2015
A 21-year-old man has died after he drove his car into a small pond in west Wichita.Wichita police say the man was driving westbound on the feeder road in the 6800 block of W. Kellogg about 12:30 Saturday morning when his car hit a curb and drove into the pond near Party City.Sgt. Brian Sigman said when officers arrived on the scene they found the car submerged upside with the driver still in the vehicle. A 19-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was able to escape uninjured.Sigman said the driver was underwater for an extended period of time before he was rescued. He said he was held in the driver’s seat by his seat belt which had to be cut by firefighters to rescue the man.Police say the driver was taken out of the car by Wichita Fire Department rescue crews. He was taken to Via Christi St. Francis hospital in extremely critical condition.Police say speed was a factor in the crash.
