Pittsburgh, PA : A motorist was killed in a three-vehicle accident on Tuesday, May 30, 2017
A motorist was killed Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle accident on the Mon-Fayette Expressway in California that state police said was initiated by a wandering flock of turkeys.
The Washington County Coroner’s Office confirmed that one of the drivers, Robert John Bishop, 48, of California died at 9:30 a.m. following the 8:15 a.m. crash on the highway, also known as state Route 43, at mile marker 34.9.
State police said all three vehicles were traveling north when a group of turkeys wandered onto the roadway. The chain-reaction crash happened when one of the vehicles struck the turkeys and slowed down. Mr. Bishop then struck that vehicle and stopped. The third and final vehicle then struck Mr. Bishop’s car from behind.
Mr. Bishop, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said. Cause and manner of death are pending.
The other drivers were flown to Pittsburgh hospitals for unspecified injuries.
No further information was immediately available.
