Two juniors in the 2003 Jeep Cherokee with Childs, a senior, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. They have been identified as Ben Sangiolo and Jacob Levesque, according to our news partners at the Brockton Enterprise.

Sangiolo and Levesque are being treated at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, and are expected to recover.

Childs had starred in a performance of Grease Saturday night at Middleborough High School.

Middleborough Superintendent Roseli Weiss said she placed an automated call to parents with the news before 8 a.m. Sunday.

"This is a devastating experience," Weiss said. "You feel it right in the gut, you feel it very strongly."

Weiss said Childs loved performing in school productions, but he loved being a part of a cast more than anything.

"He was just so excited about performing," Weiss said. "He was enthusiastic. He loved the camaraderie of being part of a cast."

Kalyn Kosh, Childs' cast mate and close friend, said she couldn't believe the news Sunday morning.

"We were so close that, if it had happened to anyone else, I'd be texting him and crying to him, but I can't really do that," Kosh said.

Kosh and other members of the cast decorated the set Sunday in memory of Childs, spray painting "Nathan was here."

"He was a really great friend, a very genuine person," Kosh said. "I know he would have done anything for me."

A "Grease" matinee planned for Sunday afternoon was canceled, and Middleborough High School has mobilized an emergency response team for students or family needing assistance.

A memorial for Childs started Sunday morning, with flowers left at the scene of the crash.

Middleborough Police Chief Joseph Perkins told The Enterprise that a preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
