Red Bluff, CA : Man receives major injuries in motorcycle collision on Wednesday, December 28, 2016
A 22-year-old Red Bluff man received major injuries in a two-vehicle collision about 2 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Lake and Center avenues.
Chris Perez was riding a 1981 Kawasaki 250 on Lake Avenue approaching the intersection with Center Avenue as Elva Grace, 43, of Red Bluff was driving north on Center in a 2011 Lexus.
Perez broadsided the Lexus, which caused him to be ejected from the motorcycle, sending him over the Lexus and hitting his head on the pavement as he landed, said California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Troy Somavia.
Injuries included a skull fracture and an exposed compound fracture on one of his legs.
Upon an interview with Perez, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, it was learned that the motorcycle had no brakes and he had been using his feet to stop the motorcycle, Somavia said.
Perez was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital, where he was flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.
According to the CHP website Wednesday, someone from Grace’s vehicle was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital about 2:30 p.m.
