Edinburg, TX : Drunk driver charged after head on collision with deputy on Monday morning, November, 24, 2014
Arturo Hernandez, 43, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of intoxication assault, a second degree felony, after authorities say he crashed his grey Dodge pickup truck head-on into an Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputy’s patrol car about 4 a.m. Monday morning.
Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Homer Jasso set a $250,000 bond Tuesday.
Hernandez and the deputy driving the patrol car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Information about Hernandez’s blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was unavailable Tuesday.
The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the crash. State troopers arrested Hernandez after he was released from the hospital Monday.
If convicted, he faces two to twenty years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000. He remained at the Hidalgo County Jail Tuesday afternoon.
