Williston, N.D : 24-year-old killed in motorcycle crash in Williston on Sunday afternoon, March 26, 2017
An off-road motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon in Williston after being hit by a car at the entrance to the Upper Missouri Valley Fairgrounds.
The man, identified by police as Cody Vickery, 24, of Williston, emerged from a ditch where he’d been riding west alongside 53rd Street East just as a car was turning left into the fairgrounds from the eastbound lane. The two vehicles met nearly head-on, according to Williston police.
Vickery was taken to the hospital in Williston with severe injuries and died a short time later. He was not wearing a helmet.
Charges against the driver of the car, a 16-year-old girl, are not expected, investigators say.
The teenager, whose name has not been released because of her age, was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Police received multiple 911 calls after the crash, which took place about 1:10 p.m. and was witnessed by a number of people. Investigations by the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Williston Police Department are continuing.
The crash was the second fatal accident involving a vehicle in Williston this year. Last month, Melvin Lyons, 69, died after he was hit by a dump truck as he worked at a construction site off of 26th Street West.
