Los Banos, CA : 89-year-old woman died in a head-on collision on Highway 152 near the San Luis Reservoir on Thursday, Nov 19, 2015

The California Highway Patrol provided details Monday about a head-on collision west of Los Banos in which an 89-year-old woman died.

The crash occurred about 5:40 p.m. Thursday west of Lower Cottonwood near the San Luis Reservoir.

The CHP said Joshua Gutierrez, 21, of Sacramento was westbound on Highway 152 in a Mitsubishi when he steered left for an unknown reason, drove into the median and lost control. The Mitsubishi entered the eastbound lanes and collided with an eastbound Mazda driven by Emmanuel Manahan, 56, of Foster City.

The Mitsubishi split in half and Itzayana Orozco, 21, was ejected and sustained major injuries. Joshua Gutierrez was not injured.

Two-month-old Benjamin Gutierrez, who was in a car seat, was thrown onto the road but avoided serious injury, according to the CHP.

The Mazda overturned and the 89-year-old, of Foster City, died after she was taken to Doctor’s Hospital in Modesto by helicopter. Emmanuel Manahan and Carmala Manahan, 55, both of Foster City, sustained moderate injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.
