San Antonio, TX : Two people in critical condition after a head-on collision near Bulverde Road on Saturday morning, April 23, 2016

A head-on collision caused by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the far North Side sent two people to the hospital in critical condition Saturday morning, San Antonio police said.

The driver traveling west on the eastbound lane of Loop 1604 near Bulverde Road slammed into a Cadillac going the correct way on the highway at about 3 a.m. Saturday, according to police.
Immediately after the collision, another vehicle traveling behind the Cadillac then hit the Cadillac from behind.

The driver of the Cadillac was taken to University Hospital in critical condition, while the Jaws of Life had to be used to rescue the driver who caused the accident, police say. That driver was transported by Airlife to University Hospital, also in critical condition.

The third driver was not injured. Police said they will continue to investigate the accident and that charges are pending.
