Twiggs County, GA : One person dead in three-vehicle crash near Knowles Landing on Wednesday morning, July 27, 2016

The Georgia State Patrol was investigating a fatal wreck that happened before 8 a.m. Wednesday near Knowles Landing in Twiggs County.

Three vehicles collided in a head-on crash on Ga. 96 between the railroad tracks and the Cochran Short Route, also known as U.S. 129 and Ga. 247, Houston County Fire Chief Jimmy Williams said.

The accident is near the Houston County border and the Georgia Search and Rescue truck responded to help extricate the victim, along with a Houston County fire engine and rescue unit, Williams said.

Two pickups and a vehicle were involved in the accident, but no one else was transported to the hospital, the chief said.

Shortly after 10 a.m., authorities began extricating the victim from one of the pickup trucks which suffered extreme damage to the front end, causing the fatal injuries.

The victim’s identity will not be released until the family is notified.
