Rockton, IL : Illinois, man identified in fatal Interstate crash on Saturday, January 7th 2017

The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Department released the name of the man that died following a traffic crash Saturday on Interstate 39-90 in the town of Turtle.

Jacob Weibel, 27, of Rockton, Illinois, was the driver and sole occupant of the car involved in a head-on collision with a semi truck carrying methanol and hydrogen peroxide near Shopiere Road, Rock County Sheriff Robert Spoden said.

Interstate 39-90 was closed for 10 miles between Janesville and Beloit in both directions after the crash.

Weibel, who was driving a Toyota Camry, died at the scene. The crash was reported to authorities at about 4:40 a.m.

Initial reports and evidence from the scene indicate the Camry was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it struck the semi, Spoden said. He said the cab of the semi was fully engulfed in flames, but the driver was able to escape the cab on his own.
