An unidentified driver died at a local hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Washington Street
in Ayer late Saturday night, according to a spokeswoman for Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
Ayer police did not immediately comment on the crash, but Elizabeth Vlock, a spokeswoman for Ryan,
said emergency crews were called to a single-vehicle crash about 11:20 p.m.
The driver, whom authorities did not immediately identify, was taken to a local hospital and
pronounced dead, according to Vlock. Fire Department radio broadcasts indicated the driver was taken
to Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer.
"This is an open and active investigation and no additional information is being released at this
time," Vlock wrote in an email.
Police and Fire Department radio broadcasts indicated the crash occurred in the area of 114
Washington St., and that the vehicle involved ended up on its side. Radio broadcasts indicated that a
woman in her 60s was trapped inside the vehicle until firefighters were able to free her and perform
CPR at the scene.
Ayer police referred questions about the crash to Lt. Brian Gill, who was not available Sunday night.
