A male driver has been hospitalized in unknown condition after his vehicle ran off a freeway transition road and split in half early today. The single-vehicle accident happened on the northbound transition road to the Golden State (5) Freeway from the Glendale (2) Freeway at 1:10 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Bishop said. A videographer at the scene said the vehicle was a black Mercedes AMG, with the engine and front section separated from the body of the vehicle. The vehicle had struck a guard rail and then a tree, apparently at high speed, the videographer said.
